TM5 Bad Faith seminar in the Vietnam

On 24 January, the TM5 Partners held their third seminar for IP office examiners in the ASEAN region as part of the JPO-led TM5 Bad Faith Trademark project. This time, the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam (IPVN) and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Bangkok organised the event in a hybrid format in the Novotel Hanoi Thai Ha. Mr. Tran Le Hong, Deputy Director General of IPVN, gave the opening remarks. Representatives from the JPO, KIPO and CNIPA presented in person, while the USPTO and the EUIPO participated online to discuss bad faith filings and the various laws and practices available to combat them.

IPVN trade mark examiners and other interested staff participated in the discussions and presentations. In addition to explaining the rules applicable in their jurisdictions, TM5 Partners also gave various examples of how to determine whether a trade mark application has been filed in bad faith, how to assess the details of such cases, and what the possible outcomes may be.
