The Japan Patent Office (JPO) and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) hosted a specialized workshop on February 5, 2026, focusing on robust countermeasures against “bad faith” trademark applications.
The event, held at the Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel in a hybrid format, brought together experts from the TM5 partners offices, IP attaches in the region and the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) Thailand.
“Bad faith” applications – where entities attempt to register trademarks belonging to others to profit from their reputation – remain a persistent challenge for brand owners globally. This workshop served as a critical platform for IP offices to align their legal frameworks and examination practices.
TM5 has been conducting bad faith seminars with IP offices worldwide since 2022, including in Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia and the Western Balkans.
