The 2024 TM5 Annual Meeting was organised by the JPO in Hakone, Japan.
Three TM5 joint projects reached their objectives and were declared to be accomplished: Common Status Descriptors, Exchange of Staff, and TMview. One new CNIPA-led project was discussed for developing a user guide on application requirements. The EUIPO and CNIPA published a comparative study on appeal procedures. The TM5 offices agreed to work on including environmentally friendly goods and services among the commonly accepted ID list terms.
Over 140 representatives of the five jurisdictions joined the TM5 user session in Hakone to share and discuss insights and case studies from the private sector regarding bad faith filings. The KIPO also presented to the users the results of the collaborative TM5 project relating to online infringement.
In January 2025, a TM5 workshop will be organised with three offices from the Western Balkans (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and North Macedonia) on bad faith practices. In May, the TM5 Partners will hold a joint workshop on acquired distinctiveness of 3D marks at the INTA Annual Meeting in San Diego.
